Application Deadlines
Because the first two years of the PhD program is very structured,
we encourage PhD students to enroll in the Fall. Students for the MA
and MA/JD may enroll in the Spring or Summer semesters.
- The application deadline for Fall and Summer admission is May
1.
- The application deadline for Spring admission is November 1
- Applicants who wish to be considered for University fellowships should
submit their application by December 1.
- Applicants who wish to be considered for Department financial assistance
( graduate teaching
and research assistantship ) should send their applications by February
1.
- International applicants are encouraged to send their applications
early to allow the processing of immigration documents.
Application Procedure
Step 1: Go to the website http://www.graduate.ku.edu/apply/index.shtml.
You have two options: apply on-line or download a paper copy of the application.
The Department encourages applicants to apply electronically to reduce
the application-processing time. The website also has instructions about
the application process. Please read and follow the instructions carefully.

- Three letters
of recommendation (download
forms)
- Official transcripts from each university or college you have attended
- Supplementary Application (download
forms)
- GRE Test Scores (Ph.D. applicants only)
- TOEFL or IELTS scores (International applicants only)
- TOEFL-iBT replaces the TSE which is no longer offered (International applicants interested
in Graduate Teaching Assistantship)
- Financial Resource Statement/Affidavit of Support (for international
applicants only): The department will
process your application even if you do not submit the financial certification
forms. If an applicant is
awarded a teaching assistantship, research assistantship or fellowship,
then there will be no need for
the financial certification forms. Otherwise, you will need proof of
finance in order to be formally admitted
and be issued an I-20 for an immigrant visa.
