Graduate Student Elected to Student Senate

Economics Graduate Student Organization President Abdulghaphor Hajjieh was elected to the University of Kansas’s Student Senate. He presented himself as a single-issue candidate, raising awareness to the importance of making the Graduate Record Examination optional across all graduate programs, arguing that it discourages non-traditional and underrepresented groups from pursuing higher degrees.

Abdulghaphor is a MA student from Kuwait on a scholarship from Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research where he works as a Research Associate. Prior to that he worked as Research Assistant/Course Administrator at the International Monetary Fund. He is also a former board member at Kuwait Democratic Forum, Kuwait Civil Alliance, and Youth Association of Kuwait.
