Biography

Dietrich Earnhart is a full professor of economics and the director of the Center for Environmental Policy at the University of Kansas. He teaches courses on environmental economics, resource economics, environmental policy analysis, comparative economics, and law and economics. His research focuses on environmental economic issues that involve legal dimensions, such as optimal strategies for enforcing environmental protection laws, the effects of regulatory factors and other external forces, such as local community pressure, on corporate environmental performance in the U.S. and Europe, and the effects of ownership structure on environmental management in transition economics. His research also examines farmers' responses to changing climate conditions and emerging biofuel markets, along with the legal and physical factors shaping farmers' water use decisions. Recent research explores the recovery of resources, such as nutrients for use as fertilizer, from the wastewater streams of municipal wastewater treatment facilities and industrial factories.
